Get to Know Your Host

Jorge Mateo is a professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic. He began his career in 2012, signing with the New York Yankees as an international free agent. He spent a few years in the minor league, where Baseball American named him a top 2016 Yankees minor league prospect. He was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2017. Mateo was also named to the All-Star Futures Game in both 2016 and 2019.

In the summer of 2020, Mateo was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he made his MLB debut. He went on to join the Baltimore Orioles in August 2021, where he finished both the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Mateo’s talent does not go unrecognized by his team, as Ryan Mountcastle said, “I don’t know if he gets the credit he deserves, but he’s amazing.”
